Description
Charmonium production in pA collisions has always been a supplier of new puzzles and challenges stimulating the development of theory and new experimental studies. The underlying mechanisms for some of the observed nuclear effects are still under debate. Those effects and plausible explanations are reviewed in this talk. A novel mechanism enhancing charmonium production off nuclei explains the observed energy independence of nuclear suppression of charmonia produced at RHIC and LHC.
